KANO SEMA


The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (KASEMA) was established under the edict No. 7 of 1986 and in 1999, however, due to administrative convenient the board was merged with kano Rehabilition Board for the disabled under edict No. 3 of 1999, to form what is now known as KANO STATE MANAGEMENT AGENCY, after the merger was formalized by and became effective on the state House of Assembly during the tenure of His Excellency Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje(OFR). Kano State Emergency Management Agency as name entail is a social service department of the Government, saddled with the responsibilty of providing o relief materials to victims of diasters and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in the state. The Agency rendered its services and obligation in tandem with this administartion avowed stand of uoliftment of the living condtions of its citizens.

The Agency is responsible for the overall co-ordination of emergency management in Kano State, working closely with all its Stakeholders. The Agency was statutorily charged to provide adequate and prompt response as well as sustaining intervention in all forms of emergency/disaster situations in the State within the territorial boundary called “Kano”. It performs this onerous task through Emergency/Disaster prevention preparedness, mitigation, recovery and relief. The law that set up the KASEMA did empower the Agency to coordinate the activities of all its stakeholders and NGO’s who are categorized into Primary, Secondary and Tertiary responders in management of all emergency and disaster situations in the State as well as also to build their capacity toward increasing response capability.

OUR MISSION

To formulate policy on all activities relating to disaster management in the state and co-ordinate the plans and programs for efficient and effective response to disaster with view to alleviating the suffering of the victims.


OUR GOALS

Emergency Relief

To collect and distribute emergency relief materials supplied from sources approved or authorized by the government to part the state affected by natural or other disaster.

Financial Aids

To receive financial and technical aid from the appropriate federal, state, ministries/establishment or other bodies approved by the state government for disbursement to the affected parts of the state.

To promote the provision of free education to the disabled persons and their families and to educate and inform the public on disaster prevention and control.

To co-ordinate the activities of all voluntary organizations and non-governmental agencies for the purpose of disaster management in the state.
